Global hyperscale data center developer Yondr Group has successfully completed the first phase of its second data center located within its 100MW London campus. Situated in Slough, West London—an area recognized as the UK’s most dense data center ecosystem—the new facility has activated 10MW out of its planned 30MW capacity.
This marks a significant milestone in Yondr’s strategy to expand its operations throughout Europe. Earlier this year, the company also commenced construction on a third data center with a capacity of 40MW at the same site. The first facility became operational in mid-2024, while Yondr’s development in Frankfurt reached its readiness for service in November 2024. These initiatives highlight Yondr’s increasing footprint in crucial European data center markets.
The Slough facility is designed with a strong emphasis on sustainability, aligning with Yondr’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments, including the aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030. The building has received a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ certification and features an annual power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.21, which exceeds industry norms. Significant sustainability initiatives involve a green southern wall, rooftop solar panels, and provisions for numerous electric vehicle parking spaces—all part of a long-term plan to enhance the local environment.
Enhancing Local Biodiversity
Yondr has integrated community engagement into its development approach, collaborating closely with the Slough Borough Council and the Canal & River Trust. This partnership has focused on ensuring that the data center not only meets operational standards but also contributes positively to the locality. The project has included extensive environmental cleanup of the former industrial site, which previously housed a paint factory, addressing issues of soil and groundwater contamination.
In efforts to promote local biodiversity, Yondr has installed bat and bird boxes and is refurbishing a nearby cycling path. The company has also initiated a technical apprenticeship program aimed at employing four apprentices by the end of 2025.
Peter Hill, vice president of Design & Construction EMEA at Yondr, expressed that the rapid development of the London campus reflects their dedication to sustainability and the reliability required by clients. He pointed out that this milestone not only meets existing client demand but also reinforces Slough’s position as a pivotal international hub for digital infrastructure.
Hill further emphasized that the transformation of the once-industrial site into a cutting-edge data center campus aligns with Yondr’s broader vision of supporting the UK’s digital economy amid the global surge in data demand.
