TikTok has made a significant commitment to Thailand by pledging to invest $8.8 billion in data center hosting services over the next five years. This investment more than doubles its previous target for the Southeast Asian nation, aiming to bolster its infrastructure to better serve the local user base of approximately 50 million.

Helena Lersch, TikTok’s vice president of public policy, announced the pledge during a meeting with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Bangkok, although she did not provide specific details about the investment plans. This announcement follows earlier discussions where TikTok had already planned to invest $3.8 billion in Thailand, a country with a total population of 70 million.

Thailand has increasingly attracted investments from major technology companies like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple, as they seek to leverage the growth potential in this rapidly digitizing region. TikTok emphasized that this investment would facilitate more localized and efficient operations, ultimately aiding in better serving its customers in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
