STC has announced the launch of two significant projects aimed at enhancing Bahrain’s position as a key digital hub: the 2Africa Pearl subsea cable system and a new Data Center Park. These initiatives, spearheaded by STC Bahrain and center3, represent a notable investment of $300 million, intended to bolster Bahrain’s digital economy by driving innovation, job creation, and technological advancement, aligning with the country’s Vision 2030 agenda.

The 2Africa Pearl subsea cable is an extension of the larger 2Africa subsea network, which spans approximately 45,000 kilometers and is capable of delivering 180 terabits per second. This crucial infrastructure connects Bahrain to various regions including the Arabian Gulf, India, Pakistan, Africa, and Europe, thereby enhancing regional connectivity and establishing Bahrain as a significant node in global digital communications.

At the launch event, which was attended by high-profile officials including Bahrain’s Economic Development Board CEO and the Minister of Sustainable Development, the 2Africa Pearl cable was recognized as a transformative project essential for regional digital empowerment. With its robust network capabilities, it is set to support Bahrain’s evolving tech ecosystem and help bridge digital divides across the Gulf.

In addition to the subsea cable, STC is developing a new Data Center Park on a 55,000-square-meter site in Bahrain’s Al Qurain region, designed to cater to the needs of content providers and enterprises that rely on substantial processing power. This facility will be capable of scaling up to 60 megawatts of IT load and is being constructed with energy efficiency in mind. It is aligned with Bahrain’s ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 through renewable energy sources.
