According to the annual Kaspersky Security Bulletin (KSB), an average of 467,000 malicious files was identified daily, marking a significant rise from the previous year. Windows users remain the primary targets, with 93% of the detected malware linked to this operating system. Threat actors commonly exploit scripts and MS Office document formats, which comprised 6% of the harmful files detected daily. The report noted a 19% increase in Windows-specific malware from 2023 to 2024, underscoring the ongoing efforts by attackers to exploit vulnerabilities within the platform.

One of the most alarming trends is the sharp 33% rise in Trojan detections. These malicious programs often disguise themselves as legitimate software, making them the most prevalent type of malware. Notably, Trojan-droppers—malware designed to stealthily install additional malicious software—experienced a staggering 150% increase over the previous year.

Vladimir Kuskov, Head of Anti-Malware Research at Kaspersky, emphasized that the emergence of new threats is driven by adversaries who continuously develop more sophisticated attack strategies. He pointed to risks such as supply chain attacks, targeted strikes on open-source software, and the increasing role of artificial intelligence in powering phishing campaigns and generating new viruses.
