HPE Aruba Networking has introduced a diverse range of new products aimed at enhancing connectivity in retail environments, focusing on both in-store and Internet of Things (IoT) networks while boosting analytics and management efficiency.
The latest additions to Aruba’s retail-ready network portfolio include the 100 Series Cellular Bridge, an 18-port Ethernet switch designed for compact spaces, and the 750 Series wireless access point. These products can be managed through the HPE Aruba Networking Central platform, which integrates various functionalities for ease of use.
Retailers can package these products with Aruba’s Private 5G solution, previously unveiled, which includes an integrated 4G/5G core, HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers, SIM/eSIM cards, 4G/5G small cells, and a user-friendly cloud dashboard for comprehensive management. This package, bolstered by HPE’s acquisition of 5G technology from Athonet in 2023, facilitates the rapid establishment of private cellular networks, offering essential components like a mobile packet core and radio devices.
The introduction of the 100 Series Cellular Bridge allows for 5G fixed wireless access at remote sites, including branch offices and pop-up locations, supporting crucial applications like curbside pickup and credit card transactions. According to Gayle Levin, head of wireless product marketing at HPE Aruba Networking, this product enables retailers to maintain business continuity without the need for fiber installation.
Additionally, the new compact switch and existing edge computing servers support AI operations at the edge, facilitating low latency performance necessary for applications requiring prompt data processing. For instance, the recently announced HPE ProLiant DL145 provides a small footprint for deploying AI solutions within retail settings.
The 750 Series access points are capable of supporting up to 18.7 Gbps in data rates and can handle numerous IoT connections. With enhanced processing power, these access points enable near real-time data analysis for AI applications and support multiple IoT protocols, including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Zigbee, and USB port extensions. This promises better service for customers through advanced location capabilities for marketing and inventory management.
Management capabilities have also been improved in HPE Aruba Networking Central. The platform’s enhanced User Experience Insights offers IT teams valuable visibility into device performance, allowing for faster troubleshooting. This is crucial for improving customer interactions.
Moreover, AI-driven insights can detect potential IoT security breaches by monitoring data transfers from devices and refine the customer experience further. As Levin points out, the application of IoT technology across retail environments—from refrigeration controls to autonomous inventory systems—provides rich data sources that can inform AI-driven insights, aiding in personalized promotions, intelligent advertising, and in-store analytics.
