Prerequisites

Before installing Plesk, make sure your server meets the following requirements:

  1. Supported Operating Systems:

    • Linux: CentOS, Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, and Rocky Linux.
    • Windows: Windows Server 2016 or newer.
  2. Minimum System Requirements:

    • CPU: 1.4 GHz or faster
    • RAM: 2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended for better performance)
    • Disk Space: At least 20 GB available for the Plesk installation and websites
  3. Root or Administrator Access: You need root (Linux) or administrator (Windows) privileges to install Plesk.


Step 1: Access Your Server via SSH (Linux) or RDP (Windows)

  • For Linux Servers: Connect to your server using SSH from a terminal. If you’re using a local machine, you can open a terminal and run:

  • For Windows Servers: Use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to access your server’s desktop environment.


Step 2: Download and Run the Plesk Installer

For Linux:

  1. Download the Plesk Installer: Run the following command to download the Plesk installer script:

				
					wget https://autoinstall.plesk.com/plesk-installer
				
			

   2. Make the Installer Executable: Use the following command to grant execution permissions:

				
					chmod +x plesk-installer
				
			

   3. Run the Installer: Start the Plesk installation process by running:

				
					./plesk-installer
				
			

This will launch the interactive installer.


    4. Select Installation Type
: You’ll be prompted to select the installation type:

  • Recommended: Installs Plesk with the most commonly used features.
  • Full: Installs all available Plesk features.
  • Custom: Allows you to select the specific components to install.

    5. Complete Installation: The installer will download and set up Plesk, which may take a few minutes. Once complete, the installation summary with login details will be displayed.

For Windows:

  1. Download the Plesk Installer:

    • Open a browser on your server and visit Plesk Download Page.
    • Download the Plesk Installer executable.
  2. Run the Installer:

    • Double-click the downloaded file to launch the Plesk installation wizard.
    • Select Install Plesk from the options.
  3. Choose Components and Install:

    • Select the components you want to install (or choose the recommended setup).
    • Follow the prompts to complete the installation, which may take several minutes.

Step 3: Access Plesk for the First Time

Once installation is complete, you can access the Plesk Panel via your web browser.

  1. Open a browser and navigate to:

				
					https://your_server_ip:8443
				
			

   2. Login: Use the credentials provided during installation. If prompted, set up your admin account and password.


Step 4: Initial Plesk Configuration

After logging in, you’ll be guided through the initial setup wizard:

  1. License Key: If you have a Plesk license, enter it. For new users, Plesk often provides a trial license.
  2. Set Up Hosting Preferences: Choose your default settings for domains, email, and database management.
  3. Install Extensions: Plesk offers various extensions (like WordPress Toolkit, Security Advisor, and Backup Manager) to extend functionality. Select and install the ones relevant to your use case.

Step 5: Create a New Website or Domain

To start using Plesk for web hosting, follow these steps to create your first domain:

  1. Go to Websites & Domains in the Plesk dashboard.
  2. Add Domain: Click on Add Domain and enter your domain name.
  3. Set Up Hosting: Choose the directory for website files and configure hosting settings.
  4. Upload Website Files: Use the File Manager to upload website files or set up FTP for remote file transfers.

Step 6: Configure DNS Settings (Optional)

If you’re managing DNS records with Plesk:

  1. Go to DNS Settings in the domain dashboard.
  2. Add or Edit Records: Add A, CNAME, MX, and other records as needed.
  3. Apply Changes: Once configured, make sure to update your domain registrar’s DNS settings to point to your Plesk server’s IP.

Step 7: Install SSL Certificates for HTTPS (Optional)

To secure your website with HTTPS:

  1. Go to SSL/TLS Certificates under the domain’s settings.
  2. Use Let’s Encrypt: If available, select Let’s Encrypt to generate a free SSL certificate.
  3. Apply the Certificate: Once installed, apply it to your domain to enable HTTPS.
