Fujitsu and AMD have established a strategic alliance aimed at promoting sustainable advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). As part of a newly signed memorandum of understanding, the two firms will work together to create open-source, energy-efficient platforms to meet the growing demand for high-performance AI solutions. This collaboration is centered on prioritizing energy efficiency, particularly as the use of AI applications, such as generative AI, continues to surge.

Fujitsu is advancing its technology with the FUJITSU-MONAKA, a next-generation Arm-based processor engineered for high performance while maintaining low power consumption. When paired with AMD’s Instinct™ accelerators, this processor is expected to manage substantial AI workloads effectively, aiding data centers in minimizing overall costs.

The partnership will concentrate on three key strategic areas: engineering, ecosystems, and business. It will merge Fujitsu’s top-tier supercomputer CPU technology with AMD’s renowned GPU technology, with the intention of collaboratively developing ground-breaking computing platforms for AI and HPC by 2027.

Additionally, the collaboration aims to boost engagement with the open-source community through AMD’s ROCm™ software, an open-source AI/HPC stack tailored for GPUs, in conjunction with Fujitsu’s FUJITSU-MONAKA software. Both companies are dedicated to promoting open-source AI software that is tailored for their unique computing platforms while broadening the overall ecosystem.

Fujitsu and AMD are set to collaborate on marketing strategies and co-development initiatives with clients to promote their AI computing platforms globally.
