In October 2024, the company filed a cybersquatting complaint concerning this domain, claiming it was registered by someone else in September 2024.

However, the situation became complicated during the verification process through the registrar, which revealed Halliburton’s details were still linked to the domain. This left the panelist questioning whether Halliburton was filing a complaint against itself, as it was unclear if the company had indeed lost ownership of the domain.

The potential scenarios were that either the domain was stolen, or it had been auctioned off after expiration. Despite this gray area, Halliburton failed to provide an explanation or evidence for the shift in ownership. Panelist Georges Nahitchevansky noted that Halliburton did not claim any ownership change since the domain’s registration and simply stated it was registered on September 15, 2024, without clarifying how this occurred.

In his decision, Nahitchevansky pointed out that the original registration date for the domain was September 15, 2005, with only an update occurring in 2024, which could have been as insignificant as a change in contact information. Complainant Halliburton was given an opportunity to clarify its position but opted to proceed without offering substantial details.

The panelist ultimately concluded that there was a high probability the disputed domain had been registered by or for Halliburton itself, further complicating the company’s position. Halliburton’s lack of clarity and evidence allowed the panelist to suggest that the firm might have been inadvertently seeking to reclaim a domain it already had a legitimate claim to.
