DE-CIX has announced the launch of two new Internet Exchanges in Brazil—DE-CIX São Paulo and DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro. This expansion aims to enhance Brazil’s connectivity and integrate it further into DE-CIX’s global interconnection ecosystem.

The launch, which took place at the Villaggio JK in São Paulo, saw participation from national and international representatives from the interconnection industry. With the introduction of these Internet Exchanges, DE-CIX Brazil, which is a fully owned subsidiary of the DE-CIX Group, is now operational and accepting orders. These IXs are designed to be fully carrier- and data center-neutral and are strategically located across several data centers: DE-CIX São Paulo at Elea Data Centers SPO1, Ascenty SP4, and Equinix SP4, while DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro is located at Elea Data Centers RJO1 and Equinix RJ2. This infrastructure aims to provide robust interconnection services to both Brazilian and global network operators, supported by Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

A groundbreaking feature of this development is the immediate interconnection between the two IXs, which is a first for Brazil. From the outset, the platforms in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will be connected, allowing for seamless local and remote peering. This enhancement facilitates domestic interconnectivity and provides international access via transatlantic corridors.

The integration of DE-CIX Brazil into the global interconnection ecosystem allows connected clients to tap into a vast network encompassing major IXs in cities like Frankfurt, Madrid, Lisbon, and New York. This global outreach enables participants access to numerous networks, including telecommunications carriers, ISPs, content providers, cloud platforms, and enterprise networks—making it one of the largest interconnection platforms worldwide.

Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, highlighted the importance of this expansion by stating that Brazilian customers will now benefit from a more secure and globally integrated digital infrastructure. He noted that this initiative would not only enhance local interconnection but also invite international players to strengthen Brazil’s digital landscape, thereby helping the country meet the increasing demands for data exchange.

With Brazil being home to the second largest number of networks globally, this initiative aims to bridge a crucial infrastructure gap. It equips Brazilian enterprises and network operators with the necessary tools to thrive in an increasingly digitized economy, positioning Brazil as a significant interconnection hub in the Southern Hemisphere.
