A judge has dismissed a lawsuit regarding the .wallet alt-root, a blockchain-based top-level domain name, siding with Unstoppable Domains. The legal battle arose after Scott Florcsk began selling domains under his .wallet Handshake domain name, created in contrast to Unstoppable Domains’ own .wallet extension.

Initially, several lawsuits ensued, and only one claim remained active: Florcsk sought a declaratory judgment to confirm he was not infringing on any of Unstoppable Domains’ trademarks by selling .wallet domains. However, Unstoppable Domains had issued a promise not to sue Florcsk over any intellectual property issues related to .wallet, extending this promise to registries, registrars, and registrants. The company contended that this made Florcsk’s claim moot.

Florcsk sought to continue the lawsuit, funded by Handshake supporter Namecheap, arguing that the covenant not to sue was limited to .wallet, and he desired guarantees against potential lawsuits over other domains owned by him. Despite his efforts, the judge ruled in favor of Unstoppable Domains, stating that the clarifications Florcsk requested fell within the scope of the existing covenant. Thus, the case was deemed unnecessary to pursue further.
