A global leader in CDN and connectivity cloud services, Cloudflare (NYSE: NET) has officially inaugurated its new headquarters and technical center in Lisbon, Portugal. This facility is designed to support the company’s expanding operations across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, where it maintains a presence in cities such as London, Paris, Munich, and Dubai.

Cloudflare’s ongoing investment in Portugal demonstrates its commitment to broadening its footprint in the region and leveraging the country’s burgeoning talent pool.

The company first established a presence in Lisbon in 2016 by integrating the city into its European network, which now encompasses 58 cities throughout the continent. Since launching its first office in Lisbon in 2019, Cloudflare’s workforce in Portugal has experienced significant growth, increasing from just 14 employees to over 350. This swift expansion underscores Cloudflare’s intention to deepen its operations in the region, with Lisbon expected to take a pivotal role in its future European activities.

The formal opening of Cloudflare’s new office was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by distinguished guests, including Portugal’s Minister of Economy, Pedro Reis, alongside Cloudflare’s CEO and co-founder Matthew Prince and CTO John Graham-Cumming.

During the event, Minister Reis praised Cloudflare’s commitment to investment in Portugal, emphasizing the company’s alignment with the nation’s economic development objectives related to innovation, energy, and strategic infrastructure. “Cloudflare shares many of our values, and we see it as part of our future, not merely as a partner in these values,” remarked Reis.

Matthew Prince, Cloudflare’s CEO, echoed these remarks, noting that the company views Portugal as a hub for innovation, characterized by excellent international connectivity and a robust talent pool. “For the past eight years, Cloudflare has invested in Portugal, which continues to thrive as an innovation community,” stated Prince, adding that numerous global team members have chosen to move to Lisbon due to its dynamic culture and inclusivity.

Banco de Portugal, Carrefour, DHL, L’Oréal, TAP Air Portugal

Cloudflare’s presence in Portugal reflects its larger strategy to expand its global network, which supports millions of Internet properties globally. The company serves a variety of noteworthy clients in the region, including the Portuguese Football Federation, Allianz, Banco de Portugal, Carrefour, DHL, Doctolib, L’Oréal, TAP Air Portugal, and Porsche Informatik. Moreover, Cloudflare is associated with major international brands like Zalando, Roche, Sage, and WA Technology.

As Cloudflare continues to grow, it intends to strengthen its partnerships with local and regional entities to better meet the needs of its shared customers. The establishment of its new Lisbon headquarters marks a key milestone in its expansion strategy, with ambitions to leverage Portugal’s strategic location and talent to foster innovation and growth in the region.
