CareSuper Partners with Macquarie for Cloud Migration
Australian superannuation fund CareSuper has chosen Macquarie Cloud Services for a significant cloud transformation initiative. This partnership signifies a strategic transition from VMware Cloud on AWS to a more adaptable and economical environment on Microsoft Azure. CareSuper aims to modernize its IT infrastructure and enhance long-term value delivery to its members.
The project entails migrating and reconfiguring CareSuper’s existing VMware Cloud architecture, which includes a vast amount of data and numerous enterprise applications, into a fully managed Azure Local Edge service. The goal is to streamline CareSuper’s technology landscape into a single, secure, and scalable solution optimized for improved performance and flexibility.
Managing over $57 billion in assets for more than 573,000 members, CareSuper views this migration as part of a larger strategy to future-proof its digital operations. Simon Reiter, Chief Technology Officer at CareSuper, expressed their objective: “Our aim is to refine every facet of our business to provide long-term value to our members.” He emphasized the importance of cloud solutions that not only meet current needs but also align with future goals.
Macquarie’s strategy incorporates database modernization, leverage of platform-as-a-service technologies, and the creation of a new Azure landing zone for rehosted and modified workloads. Importantly, Macquarie has assumed the entire project risk by financing the migration costs upfront, thereby offering CareSuper financial security and a results-oriented engagement model. Reiter highlighted that this commitment illustrates Macquarie’s confidence and customer-centric approach.
Macquarie Cloud Services has noted a notable trend of organizations reevaluating their dependency on AWS. Naran McClung, Head of Azure at Macquarie, noted, “We’re witnessing a wave of organizations reassessing their AWS strategies due to architectural limitations and escalating costs. However, the key is not just migrating workloads but knowing how to enhance them—this is where we provide value.”
The collaboration will also benefit from Macquarie Cloud Services’ designation as a certified Microsoft Azure Expert Managed Services Provider, an elite status maintained for four consecutive years. This recognition, held by a limited number of providers in the Asia Pacific region, entails rigorous annual reviews and a commitment to delivering consistent customer value. McClung shared that since the establishment of Azure in 2020, there has been approximately a 20% annual growth in their Azure team and services, reaffirming their ongoing dedication to excellence in customer service.
