Global network backbone provider Arelion has announced an expansion of its North American infrastructure by deploying three diversified mesh network routes in Texas. This strategic move is designed to form a robust network connecting Austin, Dallas, and Houston, while also increasing capacity and efficiency between Austin, San Antonio, and El Paso.
The expansion aims to address the rising demand for AI, machine learning (ML), and cloud services within the region. By enhancing data flow, Arelion is positioning itself to offer greater route diversity and resilience for East-West and cross-border traffic, particularly for data traveling between Mexico and the dynamic DASH corridor, which includes Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. The newly established routes aim to decrease latency and improve network reliability by circumventing traditional carrier hotels and providing direct connections to hyperscale campuses.
This initiative reflects the broader trends within Texas’s data center landscape. North Texas has become a significant hub for digital traffic, boasting the second-largest data center market in the United States after Northern Virginia. In the latter half of 2023, the region experienced a 173.1% increase in dedicated data center power capacity, driven by the growing needs of hyperscale cloud operators and AI/ML services. Additionally, Austin and San Antonio have seen a fourfold increase in data center construction since 2023, totaling 463.5 megawatts of new capacity.
Following this expansion, Arelion now operates six outbound routes from the Austin metro area and seven from the Dallas metro, enhancing its capacity to serve enterprise and wholesale clients with high-capacity, low-latency connections. The new routes also strengthen connectivity into Mexico, contributing to technological advancements and regional economic development.
Art Kazmierczak, Director of Strategic Sales & Network Development at Arelion, highlighted the growing demands of businesses in the area. He remarked that the network expansion enhances connections and ensures reliable access to AI/ML resources. Furthermore, the new routes will provide essential capacity and diversity for operations into Mexico, fostering innovation and economic growth.
Arelion’s expanded Texas routes complement its comprehensive service offerings, which encompass IP Transit, Wavelengths, Dedicated Internet Access, Cloud Connect, Ethernet Virtual Circuits, and DDoS Mitigation—all backed by its globally recognized Tier 1 Internet backbone, ensuring high-performance connectivity across a resilient and diversified infrastructure.
