The latest report includes detailed statistics on global network outages, offering insights into service reliability which is crucial for enterprise organizations.
From June 2 to June 8, there were 304 global network outages across various service categories. This represented an 8% decrease from the prior week’s total of 241 outages. Specifically, U.S. outages decreased 9% from 84 to 77. A breakdown of the outages by category shows:
- ISP Outages: Globally, ISP outages jumped from 165 to 233, marking a 41% increase. In the U.S., ISP outages declined slightly from 35 to 32.
- Public Cloud Network Outages: The number of outages decreased from 30 to 27 globally, with the U.S. remaining steady at 18 outages.
- Collaboration App Network Outages: There were no outages reported for collaboration applications for the third consecutive week.
Notable Outages
On June 4, Cogent Communications faced an 11-minute outage that disrupted service for various downstream providers across regions including the U.S., Mexico, the U.K., and Germany. The incident began at approximately 12:16 AM EDT, with initial issues noted at nodes in Mexico City and Los Angeles. This was quickly followed by other regions, including Washington D.C. and Dallas, joining the outage before resolution.
On June 3, Microsoft experienced a five-minute network outage affecting access to their services across several regions, initially observed in New York and later affecting nodes in Newark and Chicago. The outage was rectified by 12:25 PM EDT.
Throughout the previous week (May 26 – June 1), a total of 241 global outages were noted, down from 383. Specifically, U.S. outages dropped significantly from 147 to 84. This period also saw:
- A significant decline in ISP outages to 165 globally and to 35 in the U.S.
- A slight reduction in public cloud network outages from 31 to 30 globally, and slightly fewer in the U.S. from 21 to 18.
Two key outages during this timeframe included a 31-minute disruption at Arelion, impacting various regions including India and Singapore, and a 12-minute disruption from Cloudflare affecting customers across the U.S.
