Data from UDRP.tools reported 86 RDNH decisions in 2025, a noticeable rise from 56 in 2024, 50 in 2023, and 47 in 2022. Furthermore, instances where panels considered RDNH exceeded 200 in 2025, up from 122 the year before.
GigaLaw, which began tracking RDNH findings in the second quarter of 2025, found that 1.3% of cases resulted in RDNH decisions during Q2, and this was slightly lower at 1.2% in Q3. This spike in RDNH cases can be attributed to a couple of factors. As desirable domain names become more expensive, businesses are increasingly resorting to UDRP when they cannot acquire domains through traditional means.
Additionally, the Internet Commerce Association (ICA) has played a vital role in raising awareness among panelists about RDNH. They conduct training sessions and provide case analyses through various publications, which has likely contributed to the increased recognition of RDNH.
Looking ahead, it’s anticipated that RDNH cases will continue to grow, particularly as artificial intelligence tools provide unwarranted confidence to complainants who believe they can successfully file baseless cases on their own. Instances have already been noted in 2025 where AI appears to have misled some complainants in their filings.
Despite the uptick in RDNH incidents, it’s important to keep in mind that these cases represent only a small fraction of total decisions. The UDRP process generally functions well, with most cases being clear-cut instances of cybersquatting that lead to domain transfers.
