Cologix is making significant strides in the Canadian data center market through two strategic acquisitions in Toronto. The company, based in Denver and a prominent provider of colocation and interconnection services, has announced that it has gained full ownership of TOR4, a hyperscale facility in Markham, Ontario. This acquisition marks the end of a previous joint venture with CIM Group, which was established to build and manage the TOR4 site. The financial specifics of the deal have not been disclosed.
In addition to TOR4, Cologix is also acquiring the TOR5 data center located at 105 Clegg Road, also in Markham. This acquisition is aimed at enhancing capacity to support hyperscale cloud workloads and emerging AI applications, responding to the increasing demand for digital infrastructure in a thriving technology hub.
Combining the capabilities of both TOR4 and TOR5, Cologix will add 14 megawatts of power capacity and over 90,000 square feet of space to its Toronto operations. These facilities are integrated into Cologix’s Scalelogix platform, designed for robust deployments that require direct connections to cloud providers, low-latency links, and high-density interconnections.
Cologix’s CEO, Laura Ortman, emphasized that these transactions reflect a long-term commitment to not just Toronto, but to Canada. She stated, “With full ownership of TOR4 and the addition of TOR5, we are deepening our investment in Canada and delivering more control, scale, and performance for hyperscalers, enterprises, and service providers, advancing Toronto’s role as a hub for AI inference ecosystems.”
Market analysts view Cologix’s acquisitions as part of a broader trend where infrastructure operators partner with institutional investors to enter the market and later consolidate ownership as facilities mature. Cologix’s prior joint venture with CIM Group was instrumental in capitalizing on the opportunity to build TOR4, and now the company can expand its control over key assets.
Over the last decade, Cologix has focused heavily on the Canadian market, operating 22 data centers across Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver with over one million square feet of space and a capacity of 94 megawatts. Its interconnection platform connects more than 350 networks and 200 cloud providers, including direct access to major services such as AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, and Oracle, as well as hosting three internet exchanges.
By acquiring TOR4 and TOR5, Cologix is positioning itself to better meet the rising demand for colocation and interconnection services in Toronto, particularly as enterprises and hyperscalers pursue low-latency infrastructure to support their growing AI and cloud workloads.
