Public Interest Registry (PIR), the nonprofit organization that governs .org domain names, has initiated the process for nominations and applications for its Advisory Council. This council plays a crucial role in assisting PIR with its goals of supporting mission-driven organizations and offering insights on issues pertinent to the larger .ORG community, encompassing noncommercial internet users and nonprofits.
The Advisory Council operates independently from PIR’s Board of Directors and is comprised of volunteer members who serve for a period ranging from one to three years. Although this position is unpaid, members are granted funding for one trip to PIR’s headquarters in Virginia to attend one of the four annual meetings held each year.
Current members of the Advisory Council come from a variety of backgrounds, predominantly linked to the nonprofit sector, and many possess expertise in domain management, especially with country code domains. Notably, one member is affiliated with a brand protection registrar.
