Cisco Unveils AI-Driven Data Fabric Powered by Splunk: A New Era in Data Management

At the recent Splunk .conf25 event in Boston, Cisco introduced a revolutionary data architecture designed to help enterprises extract AI-driven insights from machine-generated telemetry, including metrics, events, logs, and traces. This system, known as the Cisco Data Fabric, integrates diverse business and machine data for advanced AI processing, while the Machine Data Lake offers a virtual repository for federated data sources.

The Cisco Data Fabric serves as a framework that unifies and integrates data from various platforms, whether hosted in the cloud, on-premises, or across services like Snowflake or Splunk Indexes. Utilizing capabilities from Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform, this innovative framework enables the application of AI and machine learning to derive deeper analytics, breaking down data silos into a single, comprehensive view for analytics and AI applications.

Kamal Hathi, senior vice president and general manager of the Splunk business unit at Cisco, explained that this approach involves linking disparate data sources into a coherent, federated view. The goal is to allow enterprises to scale and utilize data from virtually limitless locations.

Key features of the Cisco Data Fabric include:

  • Time Series Foundation Model (TSFM): This model offers advanced pattern analysis and temporal reasoning on time series data, enhancing capabilities like anomaly detection, forecasting, and automated root cause analysis.
  • Intelligent Data Foundation: It transforms data across various environments—edge, cloud, and on-premises—into real-time, actionable insights applicable to SecOps, ITOps, DevOps, and NetOps.
  • Borderless Real-Time Search and Analysis: The solution can search and analyze data across different locations, federating it from sources like Amazon S3, Apache Iceberg, and Microsoft Azure, directing it to the correct storage or analytic engine as needed.
  • Flexible and Open Architecture: Designed to work seamlessly in any environment, it supports open standards, plug-and-play integrations, and self-service tools to foster innovation without constraints.

Furthermore, Cisco announced the integration of Splunk Federated Search for Snowflake, which enables enterprise customers to analyze and correlate data across multiple platforms within a single workflow. This feature simplifies data management and enhances the ability to derive insights from both machine and business data.

Hathi remarked on the integration’s power, stating that it facilitates a unified query system that can address complex business intelligence needs by combining data from multiple sources, making it easier for customers to grasp the holistic impact of performance changes.

The Cisco Data Fabric is currently available, with ongoing enhancements in data management, federation, and additional AI features expected through 2026. The Time Series Foundation Model will be made accessible on the open-source Hugging Face community in November.
