According to IBM, this collaboration not only intends to enhance computational capabilities but is also focused on building fault-tolerant quantum computers by the end of the decade. AMD’s technologies are viewed as instrumental in enabling real-time error correction, which is crucial for achieving fault tolerance in quantum systems.
The companies plan to showcase the integration of IBM’s quantum computers with AMD’s technology through hybrid quantum-classical workflows later this year. Additionally, they will examine how open-source platforms, such as IBM’s Qiskit, can facilitate the creation and adoption of innovative algorithms utilizing quantum-enhanced supercomputing.
IBM’s chairman and CEO, Arvind Krishna, emphasized that this endeavor represents a significant step toward surpassing the limitations of traditional computing by combining quantum and advanced classical technologies.
In a recent announcement, IBM also claimed a major advancement in quantum computing architecture, reinforcing its trajectory toward developing the world’s first scalable and error-corrected quantum computer by 2029.
