GTT Communications has announced an expansion of its Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Protection and Mitigation Services by adding new scrubbing centers in São Paulo, Hong Kong, and Miami. This strategic move, in partnership with cybersecurity specialist Corero Network Security, increases GTT’s total number of global scrubbing centers to 13.
The newly added facilities are integrated with GTT’s EnvisionCORE platform, enhancing the company’s global defense capabilities. These scrubbing centers have been strategically located to reduce regional latency and improve real-time performance, enabling GTT to effectively manage increasing large-scale volumetric DDoS attacks across its vast network.
This expansion comes in response to an alarming increase in DDoS attacks. GTT reported a staggering 242% rise in packet-per-second (PPS) attack volumes and a 128% increase in megabits-per-second (Mbps) attack sizes from the first to the second half of 2024. These statistics highlight the growing threat to IT infrastructure and bandwidth due to sophisticated attacks targeting network hardware like firewalls and routers.
With the latest investment, GTT’s total scrubbing capacity now stands at 4 terabits per second (Tbps), greatly enhancing its ability to absorb and neutralize significant cyber threats. Central to this mitigation service is Corero’s SmartWall ONE technology, which enables rapid detection and responsive measures to DDoS events. This technology employs advanced techniques such as per-packet inspection and dynamic profiling to safeguard mission-critical applications.
Fletcher Keister, Chief Product and Technology Officer at GTT, emphasized the global footprint and precision of the expansion, stating, "We are building a stronger, more responsive defense against today’s increasingly complex cyber threats by extending our global DDoS services into Latin America and strengthening our presence in Asia-Pacific and North America." The São Paulo facility is particularly significant as it marks GTT’s first DDoS scrubbing center in Latin America. This development is driven by a rising trend in cyber activities in the region. Data from Corero’s Security Operations Center indicates that DDoS attacks targeting Latin American traffic surged by 176% in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous six months.
