European cloud provider OVHcloud is making strides in quantum computing with the announcement of its Quantum Processing Unit-as-a-Service (QPUaaS) expected to launch in September 2025. This move, revealed at the France Quantum event, highlights OVHcloud’s commitment to developing a European quantum ecosystem and enhancing access to quantum technologies.
The initiative follows OVHcloud’s selection for the AQUILA project, which aims to establish a strong quantum technology landscape in France. As part of this initiative, OVHcloud will provide customers with access to a 100-qubit Orion Beta QPU, developed by French quantum hardware company Pasqal. This QPU will be available through a Quantum-as-a-Service (QaaS) model, and it is only one of several that OVHcloud plans to roll out.
By the close of 2025, OVHcloud anticipates offering access to three operational QPUs, with a goal of having at least eight QPUs available on its QaaS platform by the end of 2027. These services will operate on a pay-as-you-go basis, making them more accessible to a wider array of enterprises and researchers.
In tandem with the hardware launch, OVHcloud is also enhancing its Quantum Cloud platform by integrating two new quantum emulators—Qleo from Quobly and Mimiq from QPerfect—which increases the total number of emulators available to eight. These emulators allow developers to test quantum algorithms and workflows prior to deployment on physical quantum systems.
Furthermore, OVHcloud is prioritizing cybersecurity by incorporating quantum entropy into SSL certificates and advancing research in post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD). These efforts align with the guidance from ANSSI, France’s cybersecurity agency, to safeguard against future quantum threats.
OVHcloud’s ongoing investment in quantum research and development is also evident through its support of 17 quantum startups via its Startup Program and the acquisition of the MosaiQ photonic quantum computer from Quandela, which is now utilized internally and by students through academic partnerships. Through these initiatives, OVHcloud aims to play a pivotal role in democratizing access to quantum computing across Europe.
