Enterprises using Cisco SD-WAN will now have a secure method to connect their data centers with Google Cloud workloads by utilizing Google’s extensive global network. Cisco highlights that this backbone can potentially provide better reliability and security compared to standard public internet access. Raj Chopra, Cisco’s senior vice president, mentioned that users can now quickly establish connectivity to new regions within minutes, enhancing operational efficiency.
Furthermore, the integration incorporates Cisco’s security features along with Google Cloud’s Network Security Integration service to protect transactions in hybrid environments. Chopra emphasized that customers will benefit from these combined security capabilities, ensuring consistent protection across different locations and users.
The partnership also leverages existing technologies. Cisco SD-WAN Cloud OnRamp for Multicloud automates the integration of SD-WAN into Google Cloud Virtual Private Clouds (VPC), enabling clients to apply their existing security policies within Google Cloud. Additionally, Cisco vManage will facilitate policy management and connectivity across both the on-premises and cloud networks.
On the other hand, Google Cloud views Cloud WAN as an innovative, fully managed enterprise backbone that modernizes WAN architectures. The service claims to enhance performance by up to 40% compared to traditional public internet methods and to reduce total cost of ownership significantly.
