SUSE has recently expanded its AI platform with new tools and capabilities, along with a strategic partnership with Infosys. Launched initially in November 2024, SUSE AI is trying to catch up with its competitors in the AI landscape.

The updated product now offers insights into AI workloads, LLM token usage, GPU performance, and includes functionalities for developing agentic workflows. Abhinav Puri, the Vice President and General Manager of portfolio solutions and services at SUSE, highlighted that the platform boasts enhanced security features, including LLM guardrails. Puri expressed the ambition for SUSE AI to become the go-to platform for running AI applications.

Enterprises currently face a complex and rapidly changing technology landscape, and SUSE AI aims to simplify this by offering a curated and integrated set of the best tools available. Originally launched with three core components—Ollama for managing LLMs, the Milvus vector database, and OpenWebUI—the platform has now introduced several additional tools, including MLflow for overseeing the entire agentic AI lifecycle, with plans for continued updates.

Moreover, the partnership with Infosys introduces the Topaz AI platform, which provides a range of services aimed at helping businesses develop and implement AI applications. The inclusion of the Infosys Responsible AI toolkit into SUSE AI enhances its focus on security and observability, promoting an open-source approach to address significant challenges surrounding AI, such as bias and opacity.

However, SUSE faces a challenging competitive environment. Red Hat, a dominant player in the enterprise Linux market, has already launched its own AI offerings, like RHEL for AI and Red Hat OpenShift AI, providing integrated orchestration and a unified platform for multi-agent systems. Red Hat’s revenues significantly surpass those of SUSE, with $6.5 billion in 2024 compared to SUSE’s $670 million in its last reported financials in 2023.

Experts express skepticism regarding the viability of SUSE’s AI platform given the strong offerings from hyperscalers and hybrid providers. Andy Thurai, a vice president and principal analyst at Constellation Research, noted that enterprises are currently leveraging platforms from hyperscalers or bundled offerings from major hardware providers, questioning how effective SUSE can be without a robust ecosystem. While current SUSE users may find value, the broader market sentiment is that SUSE’s entry comes too late to gain significant traction against established players.
