Schneider Electric: Pioneering Sustainable AI Data Centers for the Future

Schneider Electric introduced its vision for sustainable, AI-ready data centers at the Global Innovation Summit in Copenhagen. The CEO, Olivier Blum, emphasized the critical role data centers play in powering the digital economy, outlining the need for them to be more energy-efficient, resilient, and intelligent.

Blum pointed out that global energy demand is expected to increase by 60% in the next 15 years, largely due to advancements in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. To meet this rising demand, and in light of the anticipated tripling of renewable energy sources by 2030, data centers must be designed for adaptability, integrating intelligent automation and resilience at all levels.

Central to Schneider Electric’s strategy is the EcoStruxure Data Center architecture, which integrates energy management, cooling, and automation systems. This holistic approach, combined with AVEVA’s software-defined automation tools, allows operators to monitor and optimize performance while reducing energy waste.

A significant highlight of the summit was the announcement of a partnership with NVIDIA and EcoDataCenter to develop an advanced AI data center for DeepL, a major translation platform. This facility, featuring Europe’s first NVIDIA DGX GB200 SuperPod, is powered by over 4,000 GPUs optimized for extensive AI workloads. The data center employs NVIDIA’s Mission Control and AVEVA’s building management system for real-time oversight.

Blum described this initiative as the blueprint for future data centers—facilities that are not only powerful but also efficient and sustainable. Schneider Electric’s commitment extends to aiding hyperscale and colocation providers in achieving net-zero operations while managing the complexities of GPU-based environments.

In addition to high-performance computing advancements, Schneider Electric unveiled new innovations in cooling and energy storage, including their high-efficiency cooling technology and a local battery storage solution for data centers. These innovations aim to enhance energy efficiency and ensure uninterrupted power supply, particularly as operations increasingly rely on variable renewable energy sources.

Through a comprehensive strategy that includes grid-to-chip energy visibility and AI-driven predictive maintenance, Schneider Electric strives to enhance operational resilience. They are also expanding their digital services portfolio to support these goals.

Blum encapsulated the dual challenge and opportunity presented by data centers in the global energy transition. He asserts that by rethinking the powering and design of data centers—making them smarter and better integrated with the energy grid—they can transition into vital cornerstones of a more sustainable digital economy.

The event was especially fitting in Copenhagen, a leader in clean energy, underscoring Schneider Electric’s role as a key technology partner guiding the industry towards intelligent and environmentally conscious data center designs. With projects like the DeepL AI factory, Schneider Electric is paving the way for the fusion of automation, AI, and sustainability in the future of data centers.
