Oracle is enhancing its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) with the launch of Acceleron, a new cloud networking suite designed to provide faster, more efficient, and more secure performance across various workloads, including enterprise databases, large-scale AI, and high-performance computing.
The introduction of the Acceleron suite signifies a substantial advancement in data movement within the cloud. It optimizes the network stack by reducing complexity, resulting in improved speed, reliability, and cost-efficiency. This innovation stems from over a decade of networking advancements within OCI, incorporating both software and hardware improvements such as dedicated fabric networks, multi-planar routing, converged network interface cards (NICs), and host-level zero-trust packet routing. These enhancements aim to offer consistent high-bandwidth, ultra-low latency performance, complete with built-in security and resilience.
One of the main challenges Acceleron addresses is managing large-scale data movement for increasingly intricate workloads, especially in AI and analytics, without compromising security or scalability. Oracle asserts that this new architecture can deliver up to twice the network processing capacity and storage IOPS, while also achieving line-rate encryption throughput and microsecond-level latency—all at no extra cost for customers.

He emphasized that Oracle has been at the forefront of cloud networking innovations for over a decade, and the latest developments within Acceleron are meant to provide uncompromised performance, scalability, and security.
The Acceleron architecture operates across three layers of networking. At the fabric level, it features dedicated network fabrics that isolate traffic for exact workloads—such as Exadata databases and HPC clusters—ensuring predictable latency and throughput even at massive scales. The multi-planar design connects each network interface card (NIC) to various isolated planes, enabling traffic rerouting in the event of a network issue, which enhances resiliency and minimizes latency.
The new fabric accelerator technology further enhances throughput by eliminating intermediaries in the network, allowing packets to take the most direct path. This reduces bottlenecks and improves overall efficiency. Acceleron’s host-level innovations include a converged NIC design that unites customer and provider network planes while ensuring their isolation. This SmartNIC design enhances storage performance and supports line-rate encryption and live patching without downtime, promising double the throughput of older designs.
In addition, Oracle has revamped its security measures at the packet level. The new Zero-Trust Packet Routing (ZPR) system imposes access restrictions right from the first packet, ensuring that only authenticated traffic can reach sensitive data endpoints. ZPR incorporates new deny-based identity and access management policies to block unauthorized inspection pathways, safeguarding data before it traverses the network.
These advancements reflect Oracle’s broader initiative to create a high-performance cloud tailored for data-intensive operations and artificial intelligence. With AI clusters scaling to thousands of GPUs and enterprise applications demanding steady network performance, Oracle aims to position the Acceleron suite as a vital component for the future growth of OCI.
