Meter Expands NaaS Portfolio with Advanced Hardware and Autonomous Operations

NaaS startup Meter has recently expanded its offerings with new hardware and autonomous operational capabilities. The company introduced various products, including wireless access points, switches, firewalls, and cellular gateways, all built to run on a unified firmware.

The essence of the network-as-a-service (NaaS) model is to simplify networking for companies, particularly as the demand for skilled network engineers remains high amidst an industry shift toward AI solutions. At the MeterUp 2025 conference in San Francisco on November 18, the company showcased its vision for creating truly autonomous networks by launching nine distinct hardware platforms and announcing advancements for automated operations.

Meter’s hardware lineup includes a range of access points, switches, firewalls, and gateways, all designed in-house to maintain compatibility across devices. The primary hardware offerings include:

  • A-Series Wi-Fi 7 access points with tri-band support.
  • S-Series switches that come in different configurations catering to various deployment sizes.
  • F-Series firewalls featuring redundancy and automatic failover.
  • G-Series 5G gateways ensuring ISP failover and cellular connectivity.

Meter’s Command AI system has also seen notable updates, now automating network design and troubleshooting. It processes real-time telemetry data, analyzes support tickets, and recommends appropriate actions, currently handling around 85% of incoming tickets autonomously.

In the area of network configuration, Meter leverages a concept termed "desired state networking," which abstracts the configuration process away from individual devices. This system allows hardware to self-configure based on cloud-stored settings, streamlining deployment from weeks to mere hours. New hardware automatically downloads its role and policies upon first boot, thereby eliminating the need for pre-configuration.

Moreover, Meter has partnered with Lumen to integrate WAN circuit provisioning into its platform, combining LAN hardware and WAN circuit management into a single interface. This collaboration aims to improve the efficiency of network setup and management.

Looking ahead, Meter is focused on fine-tuning foundational networking elements while scaling its platform for greater throughput. With approximately 25% of network engineers expected to retire by 2030 and fewer newcomers entering the field, the company is aiming to tackle the increasing complexity of networks. The integration of proprietary hardware, software, and AI-driven automation positions Meter to address the industry’s pressing challenges effectively.
