The analysis involves a review of .com registrations for August 2025, focusing on registrars that had 10,000 or more new registrations that month. The median percentage of multi-year new registrations for the registrars with at least 10,000 new registrations was found to be 3%. This statistic indicates that a majority of registrations were for single years. The data reflects that registrars like Wix and Squarespace, which are more integrated with website creation services, have registrants more inclined towards long-term domain ownership. Squarespace operates under two accreditations, one of which was obtained from Google and does not yet offer multi-year options due to its setup for one-year registrations only.
The overall implications suggest that registrars with higher rates of multi-year registrations might indicate a healthier long-term investment in domain names from their customers.
