AMD Launches EPYC 4005 Series CPUs: Revolutionizing Bare Metal and Cloud Computing

AMD has launched the EPYC 4005 Series, a new line of CPUs designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), hosting providers, and cloud service providers seeking enterprise-level performance in flexible, scalable configurations. This release highlights AMD’s ongoing commitment to making high-performance computing accessible to a broader audience.

The EPYC 4005 Series CPUs are optimized for deployment in virtualized environments, dedicated servers, and cloud-native applications. Utilizing the established AM5 socket architecture, these processors are compatible with various enterprise-grade form factors, including towers, blades, and rack servers. This compatibility allows system builders and hosting providers to develop cost-effective infrastructures without sacrificing performance or energy efficiency.

At the core of this new series is the EPYC 4565P, a 16-core processor that, according to AMD’s benchmarks, surpasses Intel’s 6th Gen Xeon 6300P by 1.83 times. This significant performance improvement is vital for service providers and SMEs that depend on reliable, continuous compute power while navigating budget and deployment challenges. AMD’s offering aims to fill the gap in delivering performance, affordability, and ease of operation.

Derek Dicker, Corporate Vice President of AMD’s Enterprise and HPC Business Group, emphasized that the EPYC 4005 Series confronts the pressing concerns of growing businesses, addressing issues related to budget, complexity, and deployment timelines. The new processors have already gained substantial backing from industry partners, including Lenovo, Gigabyte, and Supermicro, along with European cloud provider OVHcloud, recognized for its commitment to open and sovereign cloud infrastructure. Yaniv Fdida, OVHcloud’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, showcased the alignment between AMD’s CPUs and OVHcloud’s objectives, demonstrating how these processors enhance compute performance while maintaining energy efficiency within a simplified platform.

Businesses and developers can now access bare metal and cloud instances powered by the EPYC 4005 Series through OVHcloud and various other cloud providers. For instance, Vultr stated that its bare metal and compute services now feature these new CPUs, which are characterized by high clock speeds and effective performance for contemporary cloud-native applications and enterprise workloads.

Supermicro has incorporated the EPYC 4005 Series across a range of its server products, supporting DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 technologies, thus facilitating lower latencies and future-proofing IT infrastructure.

With the introduction of the EPYC 4005 Series, AMD further cements its position in the enterprise and cloud compute arena. For partners like OVHcloud, these processors offer a viable route to delivering scalable and efficient services, particularly in the bare metal sector, where performance and reliability are critical. As the cloud ecosystem continues to evolve, AMD’s affordable, high-performance CPUs are expected to be invaluable for organizations aiming to scale competently without sacrificing power, cost-effectiveness, or deployment speed.
