Cloudera has released a global survey titled "The Future of Enterprise AI Agents," which reveals the growing adoption of AI agents in enterprises as they strive for digital transformation. The survey, which included insights from nearly 1,500 IT executives across 14 countries, indicates that a staggering 96% of respondents anticipate scaling up their use of AI agents within the next year, with half of them planning large-scale rollouts across their organizations.
AI agents, also referred to as agentic AI, extend far beyond basic automation. They possess the capability to reason, adapt, and act in real-time, enhancing not just operational efficiency but also agility, cost reduction, and personalized customer experiences. The survey findings emphasize the urgency of investing in AI agents, with 83% of IT leaders considering it essential for maintaining a competitive edge.
The primary applications for AI agents vary widely. The top implementations include performance optimization bots (66%), security monitoring agents (63%), and development assistants (62%). These tools are being integrated into critical business functions, providing real-time insights and responsiveness across various departments.
Abhas Ricky, Chief Strategy Officer at Cloudera, noted that AI agents have transitioned from mere experimental tools to vital assets delivering significant automation, efficiency, and tangible business outcomes. As organizations run numerous models in production, they require high-quality data for optimized results. The emergence of agentic AI is expected to redefine operational effectiveness in 2025, building upon the generative AI trend.
However, while adoption grows, many enterprises are grappling with challenges such as data privacy concerns (53%), difficulties in integrating legacy systems (40%), and high implementation costs (39%). These issues highlight the necessity for strong and unified data management strategies to harness the full potential of AI agents.
The reported hybrid approach to adopting AI agents shows that 66% of organizations are building them on enterprise AI infrastructure platforms, and 60% are utilizing agent capabilities embedded in existing applications. This dual-path strategy aims for deployments that are scalable, secure, and data-centric.
Organizations are encouraged to start with manageable pilot projects—such as IT support agents—that can demonstrate quick returns on investment and build momentum for larger initiatives.
The survey breaks down AI agent adoption by industry:
- Finance & Insurance: Leading use cases include fraud detection (56%), risk assessment (44%), and personalized investment advisory (38%).
- Manufacturing: AI agents are deployed for automating repetitive tasks (49%), optimizing supply chains (48%), and real-time quality control (47%).
- Healthcare: Applications center on streamlining appointment scheduling (51%), offering diagnostic support (50%), and processing medical records (47%).
- Telecommunications: Here, customer service bots (49%), customer experience agents (44%), and security monitoring agents (49%) are driving innovation.
The rise of agentic AI marks a pivotal shift in enterprise automation, enabling organizations to enhance efficiency while establishing a robust digital framework necessary for survival in a complex, competitive landscape. According to Cloudera, the future of enterprise AI is not a distant prospect but an accelerating reality.
